Join my Book Club and WORK AT HOME!

Monday 25 June 2007 @ 6:39 am

Summer is great time of year! Sunny days…swimming…ice cream…baseball…barbeque…the list is endless!

Summer is also a time when education specialists worry that children will lose literacy skills that they acquired during the school year. As such, many communities, schools and public libraries offer children a chance to join Summer Reading Programs.

I remember many a summer’s day as a youngster participating in a summer reading program. In fact, my mother still has in her possession, the certificates I earned for reading my quota of books over the course of many summers. I did and still do love to read! It’s no wonder I married a teacher who specializes in reading education.

Are you reading this summer? If not, WHY NOT???

What if I told you of a way that you could join a reading club and potentially turn it into a profitable work-at-home business? Sound too good to be true?

Check it out for yourself here: www.drgrafonline.com/bookclub.htm.

Make certain you click on the “View Presentation” button near the center of the page to watch a very exciting video.

10 Commandments of Driving!

Friday 22 June 2007 @ 7:34 am

Road rage is a problem. According to AAA, reports of aggressive driving have increased every year since 1990. Likewise, accidents, injuries and even fatalities as a result of aggressive drivers is on the rise.

Since as far back 1997, some psychiatrists, psychologists and other mental health clinicians and therapists have been working to have road rage recognized as a legitimate medical disorder.

Earlier this week, road rage drew the attention of a rather unlikely source: The Vatican! Cardinal Renato Martino, who heads the Vatican’s office for migrants and itinerant people warned about the effects of road rage, stating that the act of driving can bring out “primitive” behavior in motorists, including “impoliteness, rude gestures, cursing, blasphemy, loss of sense of responsibility or deliberate infringement of the highway code.”

“We know that as a consequence of transgressions and negligence, 1.2 million people die each year on the roads,” Martino said. “That’s a sad reality, and at the same time, a great challenge for society and the church.”
In a document entitled “Guidelines for the Pastoral Care of the Road,” includes what the Vatican calls the “Driver’s 10 Commandments.”

1. You shall not kill.
2. The road shall be for you a means of communion between people and not of mortal harm.
3. Courtesy, uprightness and prudence will help you deal with unforeseen events.
4. Be charitable and help your neighbor in need, especially victims of accidents.
5. Cars shall not be for you an expression of power and domination, and an occasion of sin.
6. Charitably convince the young and not so young not to drive when they are not in a fitting condition to do so.
7. Support the families of accident victims.
8. Bring guilty motorists and their victims together, at the appropriate time, so that they can undergo the liberating experience of forgiveness.
9. On the road, protect the more vulnerable party.
10. Feel responsible toward others.

Summertime tends to be a time of increased motorist travel, and with the Independence Day holiday right around the corner, maybe The Church’s message about safe driving is one we should all heed. Stay safe!
